Williams Honda FW11 - 1986
This is the Williams Honda FW11 Formula One race car that competed in the 1986 Championship season. The state of the art FW11 set the standard for all to follow in the 1986, and then went on to dominate the Formula 1 season.
Nigel Mansell won 5 races in 1986, whilst his team mate Nelson Piquet, achieved 4 victories the same season. The team went on to win the manufacturer's championship with 141 points! Well clear of their nearest rivals that year, Mclaren with 96.
The FW11 has a twin turbo-charged Honda 4-cam V6 engine, that used a mass of electronic microprocessing equipment to handle its boost, ignition and injection requirements. All new, driver-to-pit radio communications and car-to-pit race telemetry enabled the pit crew to 'watch the gauges' while also monitoring the drivers reaction to instructions and advice, all very state of the art in 1986!.
