Italian Formula One Grand Prix
The Autodromo Nazionale di Monza, located within a park to the north of the city of the same name, is the most famous motor racing circuit in Italy and one of the best known in the world.
Monza's circuit was always a high-speed layout that incorporated both a 2.8 mile oval with banked sections that boosted top speeds without unduly compromising safety. The original Grand Prix road track has remained largely unaltered for most of its existence. In common with other famous motor racing venues, Monza's corners have become famous throughout the world. They include the Variante del Rettifilo, the tight chicane that's the first hazard the drivers meet at the start of the lap. This is followed by the fast Curva Grande and yet another chicane at Variante Della Roggia. A short straight is then followed by the challenging double right-handed Curve di Lesmo, which in turn leads onto the equally challenging Curva del Serraglio, from there, there's a short straight under the original banked oval and into the fast Variante Ascari chicane. This is followed by another short straight and finally into the legendary long right-handed 180 degree Curva Parabolica that leads back to the start/finish straight. |
