Cosworth 4-Wheel Drive - 1969
This is the Cosworth 4-Wheel Drive 1969 Formula One car, it was designed by Robin Herd, who left McLaren to design this new breed of racer. The car is equipped with a DFV V8 engine, and is 'all new' for Formula One, 4-wheel drive design.
The car has a DFV V8 engine that is mounted about-turn to power the 4-wheel drive system. 4-wheel drive offered a good way of increasing traction, but added weight to the car, this was not that important at first but as teams were experimenting with aerodynamic aids, they could produce cars with the same performance of the large 4-wheel drive cars that were light and simpler in design. This ultimately, putting an end to the 4-wheel drive Formula One era before it really began!.
