McLaren MP28-3 - 1979
This is the McLaren MP28-3 Formula 1 racing car that John Watson raced the first half of the 1979 Formula One season.
Mid-way through the season the car was replaced by the newly-designed MP29 car. This particular chassis was modified and appeared at the Monaco Grand Prix with new inboard front suspension, revised bodywork and aerodynamic improvements.
The size of the car, at the time was one of the largest Formula One cars ever made, it was the teams attempt to increase the downforce generated by the oversized bodywork. However, this ultimately proved to be the cars undoing, as it was slightly overweight due to the size of the bodywork, the car also lacked rigidity.
