British Formula One Grand Prix
The original track was 3.67 miles long. A chicane was added in 1975 to slow the cars before the notorious Woodcote corner and changes were made to Bridge in 1987. In 1991, a major redesign resulted in the creation of the Luffield Complex and introduced some elevation changes to other parts of the track. Also in 2011, a new pit complex was built between Club and Abbey corners, to were the start/finish line was moved aswel, adding to the classic circuit and making it slightly longer.
Despite the changes, Silverstone remains one of the fastest of all Grand Prix circuits of modern times, and time gone by. In 2009, Silverstone signed a new 17-year contract to keep the British Grand Prix at this historic venue, so there's plenty more fast paced F1 action to be had on the old airfields yet. |
