French Formula One Grand Prix
The French Grand Prix was switched to the Magny-Cours Circuit in 1991, in the 2009 F1 season it marked the 50th anniversary for the circuit.
Magny-Cours was always a very quick track, with a typical lap starting on the wide start/finish straight leading to the fast left-handed Grande Courbe. After another short straight, a slight left leads up to the medium pace Estoril right-hand bend, then on to the back straight which features the fast right kink at Golf at halfway. The highly challenging Adelaide Hairpin was the scene of many indiscretions as drivers struggled under hard braking to find the best line through the bend to the right. The next section compromises of the fast Nurburgring style right-hand curve to the turn known as 180, with its difficult tightening exit. Then came the Imola Complex of right and left hand bends, followed by the tight-right Chateau d'Eaubend, a straight leading to another right-handed bend at Lycee then through to the start/finish section. |
