FORMULA ONE DRIVER WORLD CHAMPIONS - THE GREATS
Nigel Mansell
Nigel Ernest James Mansell was born 8th of August 1953. He won both the Formula One World Championship in 1992 and the Indy Car World Series, the year after in 1993.
Mansell was the reigning Formula One World Champion when he moved over to the American Indy Car Series, becoming the first person to win the Indy (CART) title in his debut season, and making him the only person ever, to hold both the Formula One World Drivers' Championship and the American open-wheel National Championship simultaneously. No driver fought harder to get into Formula One and few fought harder when they got there. Mansell was always hugely determined, immensely aggressive and spectacularly daring, he was one of the most exciting drivers to grace the sport. With his win or bust approach, he attained 31 wins and 32 crashes! He became the most successful British driver and joined the ranks of the all-time greats in terms of fastest laps, wins and poles. With the Union Jack on his helmet and a chip on his shoulder, he was both quick and controversial. His personality and aggressive driving made him some enemies, and his heroic performances made him millions of fans. Love him or hate him, Nigel Mansell was a driven man! And it sure showed!. |
