Spanish Formula One Grand Prix Valencia
The Valencia Street Circuit, also known as the Circuit Urba de Valencia, is a Street Circuit in Valencia, Spain, that has hosted the F1 European Grand Prix 5 times, from 2008 to 2012, the last Grand Prix to be held there was on 24th of June 2012, and has not been used since on the F1 Calender.
The long-term plan was for the Spanish Grand Prix to alternate from here to Catalunya, Barcelona, but the deal fell through, so the circuit has not been used since June 2012. The circuit is made up of street road that skirt the city's harbour, including a section over a 140 metre-long swing bridge that bridges the harbour; this caused problems at first, as there was a slight 1 to 2 inch gap when the road/track came together as the bridge connected, the cars tyres were getting shredded, bridging the slight gap in the road, to rectify the issue, a rubber t shaped bung was inserted into the gap, to ensure the cars safe journey over. There are also custom-built parts of the track to inter-link between the city streets. The track is 3.36 miles in length, and has a total of 25 corners; 14 left-handers, and 11 right- hand bends. The circuit although very attractive and visually stunning, was criticised by the drivers for its lack of overtaking opportunities. |
