British Formula One Grand Prix
Brands Hatch in Kent, in the southeast of England is one of the truly great British motor racing venues. Its location, 20 miles southeast of London, is a perfect spectator draw.
Between 1964 and 1986, the circuit hosted 12 British Grand Prix as well as the European Grand Prix in 1983 and 1985. Although no Grand Prixs have been held at Brands Hatch since Silverstone replaced it as the venue for the British Grand Prix, it remains the home of numerous top class racing events. The track is a classic high speed course, at the end of the start/finish straight is the blind Paddock Hill Bend right-hander which falls away sharply, before rising up Hailwood Hill to Druids Bend. After which its downhill again to Graham Hill Bend, and along the short Cooper Straight behind the main paddock area, before the track goes sharply uphill and left at Surtees before the dip at Pilgrims, Hawthorn Bend, and the Derek Minter Straight. The right-handed Westfield leads into yet another dip at Dingle Dell, followed by Sheena Curve and then Stirling's Bend, then its on down to Clearways, Clark Curve, and finally back onto the Brabham Straight for the finish of the iconic lap. |
